If you’re home is located in the Durham Region and/or Whitby area, you may qualify to up to $15,000 of rebate by installing solar panels with or without battery backup.

Home Efficiency Rebate Plus

Enbridge Gas has prolonged its Home Efficiency Rebate Plus initiative until 2027, offering grants of up to $10,000 to support homeowners in conserving energy and cutting costs. Collaborating with the Greener Homes Grant, this program encompasses a range of enhancements such as air sealing, heating systems, insulation, windows, smart thermostats, and weatherproofing. Additionally, solar panel installations qualify for rebates of up to $5,000.until 2032. After 2032, the credit amount gradually decreases to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034.

Durham Greener Homes Deep Retrofit Rebate

Durham Greener Homes Deep Retrofit Rebate offers incentives for residents who significantly retrofit their homes to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. This program requires both pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations. Incentives range from $2,500 to $5,000, with additional bonuses of $50 for every 1% reduction in energy use beyond the 50%.

Town of Whitby – Durham Deep Retrofit Rebate Bonus

Residents of Whitby, ON can take advantage of a bonus rebate that matches the value of the Durham Region Deep Retrofit Rebate, essentially doubling the amount of the rebate for eligible solar installations. Learn More

 

hELP SECTION

INPUT SECTION

In this section, either slider or keyboard can be used to change the values.

  • Yearly Electricity Usage – use the slider or enter the total of electricity used in the last 12 months.  The number must be in kWh.

  • LDC Electricity $ per KW – the value is taken from the consumer’s LDC billing statement.  It is calculated by dividing the total owing by the kilowatt used minus the rebate.  Please ensure that amount used as total owing is the current billing period amount without amount owing carried forward from the previous month.

  • Installed System Cost Per Watt – the cost of the solar system per watt.  For example, the cost per watt of a 10kW solar system quoted for $25,000 is $2.5 per watt.  This is for estimation only, actual cost per watt can only be obtained after a site a visit and the Offer to Connect is received from your LDC

  • Enter # of years to review – the year entered will determine how many years it will take for the your investment to be be paid off.  The number entered drives the changes of values shown in the Analysis Section, for Solar PV production and Profit of System
  • Grant or Rebate – the amount the customer will receive as grant or rebate from their Municipalities or Federal government

ANALYSIS SECTION

This section is not editable and for viewing only.  The input section effects the values and amounts showing in this section.

  • Grant or Rebate – The amount entered in the Input Section under Grant and rebate.  The application for Federal Greener Homes grant is now closed, however, if reside in the property is located in Durham region, you can be qualified to received the grant.  Please enquire.

  • System Cost AFTER Rebate – Cost of system minus rebate or grant.  For example, if cost per watt of a 10kW solar system is $2.5 and you qualified for a grant from Greener Homes grant in the amount of $5000.  The cost after rebate will be $25,000 – $5,000. (10,000W x $2.50).

  • Solar PV Production – This value is the predicted power production of the solar panels per year.

  • Profit on the 20th Year – The value is the cumulative revenue made by the solar system on the 20th year minus initial investment or cost of system.

  • Solar PV power production on selected year – this is predicted power generation of the solar system by end of the selected year.  This may varies due to weather conditions for that year.

  • Profit of the system at the end of the selected year – a negative value indicates the amount left before the amount of your investment is recouped.  A positive value indicates profit that investment has been recouped and the amount is now your profit.
  • Annualized ROI for 20 Years – This is the predicted annual rate of return of investment.

  • Revenue generated in 20 years – This amount is the total generated income or revenue of the solar system
